Debenhams. Enough said.

Anyone wants to help me make a list of the amount of shit and abuse a certain character went through at the hands of the writers? Just for the lulz, because the more I think about this the more I get angry and any minute now I'm going for mass slaughter. So?

The way the character of Ianto Jones is treated in CoE is offensive, for the simple reason that the ONLY information we get about him, the only information the new viewers who have never seen Torchwood before are given about him, is that he is gay.

Was that the only thing that defined his character? Honestly, wasn't there anything else more interesting that could have been said about him?

Oh, wait. There was one. Debenhams!

Thanks and...

Hope you don't mind, but I am in the process of comprising a list of my own of things that I will say to RTD next week...These are some of the issues I would like to include right next to the Bury-the-Gay/Disposable Woman cliché

Your list makes it easy I haven't been able to re-watch the series and I don't think I can with out wanting to scream at the telly

You're welcome. I actually saw around LJ other people who make the more or less the same remarks as mine here.

You may want to check Tencrush LJ, she's way more articulate than me and makes very good observations on Ianto in general.

Also there are tons of comments of pissed viewers on Digital Spy website and on After Elton of course.

All worth a look.

Thanks again great links...not sure if I subscribe to the don't let RTD know how you feel but the links were informative and well written. For me it is the 'gay bashing' I really feel like I have been. And sure there are worse examples to be found elsewhere...what is worse here is the show was marketed as being ground-breaking in the sense that Ianto and Jack were a couple (although shit they couldn't even agree on this) and it was on mainstream TV and yet this was never the issue. Like I said have been gay bashed by TV shows before this came out of no where blindsided me and I am left feeling like a mouse cut in half who had just found a bit of cheese.

To put it simple, old fans were let down because I'm sure I had several WTF moments while I was watching, but the thing that worries me is what possible idea of the characters the new viewers might have had.

And I'm convinced that a large part of the audience who was unconfortable with the same sex relationship to begin with was very pleased at the end that "that gay one" aka Ianto wasn't around to bother them, and Jack, any longer.

Ianto was the most interesting character, even maybe more interesting than Jack, what with his past in Torchwood London, with Canary Wharf, the hints about his father... all reduced to nothing.
