Debenhams. Enough said.

Anyone wants to help me make a list of the amount of shit and abuse a certain character went through at the hands of the writers? Just for the lulz, because the more I think about this the more I get angry and any minute now I'm going for mass slaughter. So?

The way the character of Ianto Jones is treated in CoE is offensive, for the simple reason that the ONLY information we get about him, the only information the new viewers who have never seen Torchwood before are given about him, is that he is gay.

Was that the only thing that defined his character? Honestly, wasn't there anything else more interesting that could have been said about him?

Oh, wait. There was one. Debenhams!

I'd love to help you. For starters, the ones I can think about are:

(based on what I saw in CoE)

1) Jack constantly getting snippy at Ianto
2) Ianto being called a 'pervert' by that mum in the park where he meets up with his sister
3) Jack refusing to do anything concrete to ensure that they get some quality time together when they are in their makeshift headquarters.
4) Jack yelling 'just show me!' or something like that at Ianto when he tells him about Clem and Scotland 1965. It is just so rude and disrespectful to do that to your partner.
5) Ianto being told that he 'smells' like a queer.
6) Andy making 'hur hur Ianto's gay' comments when he is on his way to Rhiannon to tell her about Ianto's DEATH, for f's sake!
7) Rhiannon implying that Ianto was some kind of liar who made up tall tales about his family background.

WTF, RTD! What did this character ever do to you that you had to treat him so shabbily?

By the way, thanks for friending me.

Thanks and...

Hope you don't mind, but I am in the process of comprising a list of my own of things that I will say to RTD next week...These are some of the issues I would like to include right next to the Bury-the-Gay/Disposable Woman cliché

Your list makes it easy I haven't been able to re-watch the series and I don't think I can with out wanting to scream at the telly

In Day One, Ianto is made out to be stupid because when he loses the SUV he doesn't automatically get out a PDA and try to track down the car, he turns into a little boy whining to his parents that's he's lost something of importance of them.

OK, Day Two. He is back to being resourceful Ianto we know and love but he is shown so little as to feel like he was only added in as after thoughts.

Day Three, Ianto was pretty much pigeonholed into Tosh's old position of being the one stuck in The Hub. Gwen and Jack got to go out and do their thing but Ianto didn't do much apart from being called Queer which he took offence to and rightly so. And what did Torchwood's Little Miss Sensitive do, she laughed at Ianto. Sorry but that was a time to prove that feelings matter a little telling off with Clem would be better, instead its seen as OK.
